Pai Gow Poker is unusual among casino card games because the decision that matters is not whether to hit or stand. You are dealt seven cards and must split them into a five-card hand and a two-card hand, and the quality of that split decides everything. How the Game Is Dealt

Pai Gow uses a 52-card deck plus one joker, which acts as a limited wild. The dealer and each player receive seven cards and arrange them into two hands: a five-card high hand and a two-card low hand. Both hands are compared against the dealer's corresponding hand.

You win only if both of your hands beat both of the dealer's. Win one and lose the other, and the round is a push.

The Setting Rule

Playing as Banker and Table Choice

Some tables let players bank hands, which changes who the other bets are settled against and can reduce the edge on those rounds. It also adds rule complications, so read the specific table's terms rather than assuming banking is available.

Then set the stake and the session budget together. Because pushes are frequent, fewer hands actually settle than the hand count suggests. Plan for a longer session at a smaller stake.

Finally, check the commission and the table limits before you sit. Five percent is standard, but confirm it, and note that banking rules vary between tables. Those two details affect the edge more than any setting subtlety you will read about.
